Lou Hamilton has a robust, physical, sculptural & unfussy approach to paint, surface & texture. She restricts her repertoire to simple abstract landscapes, cityscapes and seascapes reduced to their natural geometry of squares, stripes & crosses. She works with either acrylic or oil. Or both.
Lou’s key influences have always been Robert Ryman, Sean Scully, Joseph Beuys, Mark Rothko & Anthon Tapies, but her work is resolutely of the world we live in now. She gets her inspiration from peeling layers of old walls and the light, mood, abstract forms of urban, land & seascapes but her underlying concerns are for the environment & the impact we have on it
